A scholarly comparative analysis applying consistent epistemological standards to evaluate the historical claims surrounding both figures.
This analysis applies the same historical and epistemological criteria to both Paul and Muhammad. We steelman Muslim arguments against Paul before examining them, then apply identical standards to Muhammad. The goal is not polemics but rigorous evaluation using criteria accepted by secular historians: temporal proximity, eyewitness access, multiple attestation, hostile witness corroboration, manuscript evidence, and ethical consistency. We cite scholars across the spectrum, including agnostic and critical scholars, to ensure the analysis is not dependent on confessional assumptions.
Before responding to Muslim arguments against Paul, we must first present them at their strongest. Many Muslims and critical scholars raise legitimate historical questions about Paul\'s authority and the development of early Christianity. These arguments deserve serious engagement, not dismissal.
